Description

The Yongnuo YN116 is a medium-sized LED backlight over-camera, generating pleasant, soft light with adjustable colour temperature and a wide angle of illumination.

Uniform illumination

Achieving an extremely soft, enveloping light is made possible by the use of a modern fibre-optic panel. The design used distributes the light emitted by the 116 integrated LEDs precisely, making the entire panel shine evenly. The large, uniform surface and the wide emission angle mean that shadows cast by illuminated objects are blurred. The phenomenon of creating multiple shadows, known from the use of traditional LED panels, also does not occur.

Adjustable colour temperature

The two types of LEDs used to illuminate the panel allow the colour temperature of the light emitted by the lamp to be continuously varied. The available range of 3200 K – 5500 K makes it easy to select the appropriate colour for both incandescent and daylight ambient light.

Superb colour rendering

Very good colour rendering is evidenced by the high CRI. The CRI is defined by a value between 0 and 100 and indicates the degree of similarity of the emitted light to the spectrum of natural sunlight. The higher the value, the better the colour rendering of illuminated objects – they look more natural. A value of over 95 guarantees colour fidelity and correctly reproduced depth of tone.

Convenient control

Controlling the lamp’s operating parameters is intuitive. Two knobs on the back of the lamp allow infinite adjustment of the colour temperature and light intensity.

Mains and battery power

The YN116 can be powered by NP-F series rechargeable batteries or by an AC adapter (battery and adapter not included). This makes the flash ideal for both studio and field use. When working on a rechargeable battery, an LED indicator next to the on/off switch indicates its current charge level.

Compact design

The undoubted advantages of the flash are its low weight and compact design – the panel thickness is only 2 cm (3 cm including the knobs) and its weight is only 260 grams. Users will appreciate these features not only when transporting and travelling, but also when using it on a camera, camcorder, cage or stabiliser.

Wide compatibility

A mounting adapter equipped with a cold shoe is included, allowing the flash to be mounted directly on a recording device or stand (also included). A built-in joint in the adapter allows the panel to be positioned at a convenient angle, and 1/4″ tripod threads located in both the adapter and at the base of the lamp allow mounting on a standard photo tripod and other photo-video accessories.

Larger panels

The YN116 features a clip system that allows several lamps of this type to be combined into larger panels. This makes the resulting lighting even softer and more enveloping.
